National Cinema Weekend Is Coming to Ireland – With Tickets From Just €4

Cinema lovers across Ireland are getting a major excuse to head to the big screen this September, with National Cinema Weekend taking place on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th.

Participating cinemas across the country will offer tickets from just €4 (RSP) throughout the weekend, giving audiences the chance to catch multiple films at a reduced price.

The initiative is supported by Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland and will see cinemas across the Republic of Ireland come together to celebrate the cinema-going experience.

Two days of cinema for less

Following the huge success of previous National Cinema Days, which attracted more than 200,000 admissions in a single day, the initiative has been extended to a full weekend for 2026.

That means movie fans can make a proper weekend of it, catching new releases, recent favourites and family films without spending a fortune.

And with schools having just returned, there will also be plenty of family-friendly options for a weekend cinema treat.

Around 99% of cinemas in the Republic of Ireland are expected to take part, with participating cinemas in every county, making the offer accessible to audiences nationwide.

There will also be additional screenings catering to a wider range of audiences, including sensory screenings and selected subtitled and captioned screenings.

What can you see?

The weekend follows a blockbuster summer at the Irish box office, with huge titles including The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day helping to bring audiences back to cinemas.

There will be a wide selection of new and recent releases available throughout the weekend, so whether you’re planning a family trip, a movie date or simply want to catch up on films you’ve missed, National Cinema Weekend is a chance to do it for less.

The weekend will also feature a special re-release of The Young Offenders, celebrating 10 years since the much-loved Irish comedy first hit cinemas.

Stars Alex Murphy and Chris Walley are backing the initiative, celebrating the communal experience of watching a film on the big screen with an audience.

Ireland loves going to the cinema

The initiative also highlights Ireland’s strong cinema culture. For many years, Ireland has recorded the highest cinema attendance per capita in Europe, while the Republic also has the highest screen density per capita of any European country, with approximately one cinema screen for every 10,000 people.

So, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to get back to the cinema, this could be it.

National Cinema Weekend takes place Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, with tickets from €4 at participating cinemas.

Tickets went on sale from 5pm on Sunday, August 30th, and audiences are advised to check their local cinema listings for participating screenings and prices.
